River Thames at Hampton Court - canvas print

This painting is a very personal one for me, inspired by many happy evenings spent on the terrace of The Mitre Hotel, sipping rosé and watching the world float by. I wanted to capture that specific sense of relaxation and happiness that you only get by the water. The white facade of the hotel and the familiar arches of Hampton Court bridge are the backdrop to so many good memories, and I’ve tried to render them with a warmth that reflects how much I love this spot.

The two rowing boats moored in the foreground are the real stars for me. I’ve stylised them with bright colours and bold shapes to capture the playful, bobbing energy of the river. They aren't just boats; they are a reminder of the slow, happy pace of life on the Thames. By mixing the steady, historic architecture with these cheerful little characters and their shimmering reflections, I hope to share a sense of wellbeing and contentment. It’s my way of capturing a perfect summer evening and hopefully passing that bit of uplifting sunshine on to the viewer.
