When I painted this view of Port Grimaud, I wanted to capture the unique charm of this custom-built water town - often called the "Venice of the French Riviera" - and view it through a warm, storybook lens. My goal was to inject a sense of joy into the scene, imagining the famous marina with a playful, inviting energy. While I have carefully captured the rhythmic rows of traditional, sun-bleached Provençal houses with their terracotta tiled roofs and shuttered windows, they are balanced by a much lighter, whimsical spirit.
A lively parade of my signature boats line the waterfront, transforming the harbour into a friendly, welcoming neighbourhood of colour. By combining the classic seaside architecture with these friendly characters and their soft, multi-coloured reflections, I hope to lift the observer's spirits. It’s my way of capturing the quiet joy and optimism of a perfect summer afternoon along the canals, turning a beautiful coastal destination into a happy, dreamlike escape.
